Riverhounds unable to start winning streak
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds and former Quaker Valley head coach Gene Klein were unable to follow up their first win of the United Soccer Leagues Second Division season last Saturday, falling 3-1 on the road against the Richmond Strikers.
South African-born striker Thabiso Khumalo scored early in the second half for Pittsburgh, tying the score after a first-half goal by Richmond's Sascha Gorres gave the home team the lead.
The game remained deadlocked until the 78th minute, when Mike Burke buried a penalty kick to restore Richmond's one-goal lead.
Ten-man Pittsburgh couldn't grab a second goal after the red card, and Richmond added a late goal by Stanley Nyazamba to ensure the victory.
Once again, goalscoring was a problem for the Riverhounds, who outshot the home team, 10-9, yet still finished with only one goal.
The loss drops Klein's team to 1-9-4 in USL-2, while Richmond improved to 9-4-2.
The Riverhounds return home this weekend to face the Bermuda Hogges (3-8-2), beginning a four-game homestand. Five of the team's final six games are at home.
The game is scheduled for Saturday at 7:05 p.m., at Chartiers Valley High School.
